CIE Board & Executive Committee comprises of intellectuals, scholars and businessmen with diversified experience in Islamic financial system and industries. Brief profiles of Executive Committee Members are:

Justice Muhammad Taqi Usmani

Chairman, Centre for Islamic Economics

Justice Muhammad Taqi Usmani obtained Alimiyyah and Takhassus Degrees from the Darul Uloom, Karachi and a Masters Degree from Punjab University and LLB from Karachi University.

He has been teaching several branches of Islamic learning including Fiqh and Hadith for 42 years. He has been a judge of the Shari'ah Appellate Bench, Supreme Court of Pakistan from 1982 till present.

He is the Deputy Chairman and permanent member of the International Fiqh Academy in Jeddah. He is also the Vice-President of the Darul Uloom, Karachi of the Centre of Islamic Economics, Chairman/Member on the Shari'ah Supervisory Board of at least a dozen Islamic Banks and financial institutions around the globe.

Justice Muhammad Taqi Usmani has been a member of the Commission for Islamization of the Economy, Government of Pakistan and Chief Editor of the monthly 'Al-balagh' (Urdu) since 1967 and the monthly 'Al-balagh International' (English) since 1990. He is the author of more than 50 books in Arabic, English and Urdu.

Apart from several books and articles on the subject of Islamic Economics, he has been an active contributor to the Report of the Council of Islamic Ideology on the Elimination of Interest from the Economy, a study that has been treated by scholars as ground-breaking work on interest free banking. He has also been an active contributor to the Report of the Commission of Islamization of the Economy, which is a detailed report on the practical application of Islamic mode of financing.

Syed Mohammad Hussain

Member Executive Committee
Managing Partner, Husain Rahman (Chartered Accountant)

Syed Husain is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales and also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan. He is the Managing Partner of Husain Rahman, Chartered Accountants, an associated firm of Deloitte & Touche.

Syed Husain is also the Chairman of Yaqeen Education Foundation, managing Yaqeen Model School. The school is based upon his conceptual framework for an Islamic school incorporating worldly education yet providing a solid foundation in the upbringing of children in accordance to the teachings of Islam.

Syed Husain is one of the founding members of the Centre for Islamic Economics. He was a member of the State Bank of Pakistan's high powered Commission for Transformation of Financial system and he is presently a member of the ministry of Finance Task Force for Transformation of Government Finance - both the organization established trough Supreme Court's Judgment on Riba.

He a Jurist Consult to the Supreme Court for Riba Judgment.

Syed Husain has also served as a Trustee of Accounting and Audit Organization for Islamic Banks (AAOFI).

Syed Husain also served as a Chairman and Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants' Committee for Accounting Standards for Islamic Financial Institutions.
Syed Husain also led the efforts for design and implementation of first Shari'ah Compliant Musharkah Corporate Bond in Pakistan.

Syed Husain is a frequent speaker on Islamic Corporate and Government Finance.

Dr. Muhammad Imran Ashraf Usmani

Shari'ah Advisor, Meezan Bank Limited

Dr. Muhammad Imran Ashraf Usmani, son of the world-renowned Islamic shoar Justice Muhammad Taqi Usmani, holds M. Phil and Ph.D. Degrees in Islamic Finance. He also holds an Alamiyya and a Takhassus (Specialization in Islamic Jurisprudence) from Jamia Darul-Uloom, Karachi. His area of expertise is Islamic Finance in which he has carried out extensive research. He serves as Shari'ah Advisor at Meezan Bank and conducts training sessions for its staff on Shari'ah issues relating to Islamic Banking.

Dr. Imran also serves as:

Mr. Muhammad Zubair Usmani

Shari'ah Advisor, Muslim Commercial Bank

Mr. Muhammad Zubair Usmani completed his Doctorate in Islamic Finance form Karachi University. He is also the Fazil Takhassus (specialist of Islamic Fiqh and Fatawa) and Fazil is also the research scholar and teacher.

Besides being the Shari'ah Advisor, Muslim Commercial Bank; he is also the member Transformation Commission Sub-committee, State Bank of Pakistan; Islamization of Economic Committee Chamber of Commerce, Karachi; Implementation of Supreme Court Judgment on Riba Committee, Institute of Chartered Accountant of Pakistan and governing body Al-Markaz-ul-Islami, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Mr. Zubair has also to his credit publications on "Blessings of Martyr and the ins and outs". He has also written research topics for well-known magazines.

Rashid Haleem

Rashid Haleem is currently working as Executive Director at Shafi Group, Pakistan. He is also acting as Shari'ah Representative of an Islamic bank for 3 years. He did his BSBA (bachelor of science in business administration) form Boston University, USA. He got this MBA degree from LUMS, Pakistan.

Arshad Saeed

Mr. Arshad Saeed Graduated form Government College of Commerce & Economics Karachi in 1964 and presently is the Chairman of Khalid Brothers Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd. Whose main task is the Marketing of various Chemicals Raw- Materials consumed Diversified Industries.

He served the business community in various capacities and was elected member, Managing Committee in Chamber of Commerce & Industry Karachi in 1981 during his Tenure, he was appointed as Chairman of customs valuation Sub-Committee for the term 1981-83 and served as Chairman of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Sub-Committee for the term 1983-84.

He was appointed as Chairman of Pak-China Trade & Industries Committee in Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry for the Term 1982-84. During his Tenure, he visited P.R. of China and held Important Meetings in Beijing with China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and worked Actively in promoting the trade relations between Pakistan and P.R. of China.

Also served the Business community as a member Managing committee for Pakistan Chemical & Dyes Merchants Association During 1982-84.

He was again elected as Director of Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Karachi during the tenure 1990-96, Headed the Inter Trade and Communication Sub-Committees. He was elected as Senior Vice President during 1992-93. During the period Organized Number of Lectures, Seminar, on subjects relating.

Najmul Hassan

Mr. Najmul Hassan holds a Bachelors degree in Aeronautical Engineering from College of Aeronautical Engineering and a Mater degree in Business Administration from Institute of Business Administration, Karachi. As Head of Business Development, his primary responsibility include developing marketing strategies for the Islamic products offered by the bank, in addition to identifying Venture Capital/Private Equity opportunity and overseeing training and development. Mr. Hassan has over 26 year of diverse and rich experience in setting up projects and marketing of automotive products. Prior to joining Meezan Bank in June 2001, he was the Chief Executive of Delphi Diesel System, Pakistan for 5 years. He was also the Managing Director for 6 years in Agri Auto Industries Ltd., one of the leading automotive parts manufacturing company, where he worked for 13 years. Previous to this, he served in the Pakistan Air Force as an Aeronautical Engineer.
